Tiny Realms update brings unit traits for each faction, we have the cheat sheet revealing all the details

Tiny Realms is, hands down, one of my favourite games of 2014 so far, and continues to be by far and away the best new strategy game on mobile. It's awesome, and part of its awesomeness is that it's continually evolving. The latest update brings with it specific traits for each unit of each faction in the game, further developing the already deep yet accessible strategy management gameplay. The Battlegrounds mode has also been further balanced, and inviting friends to play with you is a bit easier now too. We've just been sent a fresh gameplay video showing the traits off, focusing on the Steam Knights, Golems, Bear Cavalry, Mammoths, Bog Hunters, and the Shambling Mass. If you need more i…

In fact, the first episode of the interactive saga, title Iron from Ice, is due to hit iPhone and iPad within a week - on December 4th, to be precise. If you want to see what the six episode series looks like in action, check out the trailer above. …

The soundtrack for Image & Form's upcoming SteamWorld Heist has been written by actual robots, sort of

Do not be alarmed, AppSpies, the world isn't about to be taken over by steam-powered robots - more's the pity. In fact, Steam Powered Giraffe is a band who masquerade as robots and they've written the soundtrack to Image & Form's upcoming sequel to SteamWorld Dig, SteamWorld Heist - which is confirmed to be headed to mobiles and tablets. That means all the songs and in-game music you hear will be written by them. They even feature in the game as a troupe that protagonist robot Captain Piper will encounter in bars when recruiting steampunk-y fighters - the likeness is pretty uncanny. SteamWorld Heist is a sequel to SteamWorld Dig due out in spring 2015, and in i…

Valiant Hearts: The Great War comes to Android mobiles, tablets, and Google TV

We very much liked Valiant Hearts: The Great War when it came to iOS (and PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC) earlier in the year, being particularly impressed by its attempt at telling a truly mature story about one of the worst periods of human history. As of today Android owners can check out the game for themselves, with the first chapter costing £2.99, and the subsequent three chapters costing £2.49 a piece (there's also a bundle for all three). Google TV owners can purchase the complete game for £11.99. Dogs of War, the interactive comic book that accompanies the series, will also be available for free if you own the game. Here's the latest trail…

Dare you take part in the closed beta of Earthcore: Shattered Elements?

Can't get enough card-based gaming on your iPad? Then you'll probably want to register for the chance to get one of 100 places in the closed beta test of another one, Earthcore: Shattered Elements. Earthcore: Shattered Elements is a - you guessed it - card battler that uses a rock-paper-scissors style system based around the three elements of Earth, Fire, and Water. We showed you a trailer for it earlier this month, remember? An interesting feature is the crafting tool, which allows you to craft your own cards. Apparently there are over 500,000 cards just waiting to be crafted. Check out this rather dramatic trailer to whet your appetite for some tappy card-based battling, then…

Block2Block's creator wants you to ASMR yourself silly with your iPhone

Described as an "addictive casual time killer", and with sound designed "according to the ASMR phenomenon", the whole point of Block2Block is to reach a state of Zen, achieve a sense of tranquillity, and just maybe give yourself a full on brain-gasm.Block2Block presents you with a 10 x 10 grid of squares, and you must make rows and columns to earn points, with multiple rows and columns rewarding you with combo bonuses that push you higher up the leaderboards. The game's free, and it could be an interesting one I reckon. Trailer's below, App Store download link is below that. [App Store link]…

Brand new Plunder Pirates video puts the 'pee' into 'F2P'

Midoki's put out a brand new animation for its free-to-play strategy management game Plunder Pirates. It's a typically tongue-in-cheek video, and though it's totally safe for work, it's definitely a bit cheeky. Got an iOS device and fancy playing the game yourself? Get it from the links under the video, and urine. [App Store link]…

Sticko may get you out of a sticky situation this Christmas

Sticko may get you out of a sticky situation this Christmas

Sticko is being pitched as essentially the solution to all of life's problems - so long as all your problems are to do with multi-tasking while using your mobile. It's a pair of suction cups that stick to your phone and just about any surface. Imagine you're trying to have a phone call while washing the dishes (which is normally a two handed job). Thwack a Sticko thingy on that phone of yours, set it at mouth level, and Bob's your uncle: you're talking to your nan while elbow deep in Fairy. Best Christmas present ever? No, not by a long shot. Neat novelty item to get a phone-obsessed co-worker for their Secret Santa gift? Damn right. You can grab a Sticko here.…

Tail Chase is from a UK grandma who saw her dog chasing his tail and thought 'now THAT'S a good idea for a video game'

Tail Chase is from a UK grandma who saw her dog chasing his tail and thought 'now THAT'S a good idea for a video game'

Dogs don't play video games. It's not because dogs can't play video games, it's that dogs simply don't need them. Why? Because they're never bored: they can always chase their tails, and as we all know that's probably the most fun thing ever. Since I'm not a dog, I don't have a tail, and consequently I'll never know such sweet relief from boredom as our canine chums. But a UK gran has thankfully stepped up and created the next best thing: a tail chasing simulator called Tail Chase. As if chasing your tail wasn't enough, the trailer for Tail Chase also promises Buzzy Bees, Manic Moles, and Bad Bunnies, so obviously you should immediately go and download it via our links below. Ionscape is a futuristic auto-roller, and it's out now on iOS and Google Play

Working Mill's new action game is called Ionscape, and it sees you bouncing between ceiling and floor, hoping to collect as many coins as possible without hitting any walls. If this sounds a bit tricky, it's because it is, but the controls are nice and simple: just tap to switch between roof and road. I really like the look of this thing, and that audio design doesn't seem too bad either! Ionscape is out now for iPhone, iPad, and Android. Here's the trailer. [App Store link][Google Play link]…

Game Workshop gives Chainsaw Warrior the sequel treatment in Lords of the Night

It's Friday, AppSpies, and do we have a treat for you. The adaptation of possibly the most testosterone-fuelled board game ever, Game Workshop's Chainsaw Warrior, is getting the sequel treatment. Chainsaw Warrior is a mobile and PC adaptation of the classic 1987 board game of the same name, with both generally involving you rolling dice to destroy zombies and other monsters in the most creatively brutal way possible. The sequel features an upgraded combat system, new weapons, upgrades, powers, and equipment, all of which can no doubt be used to duff up those poor hordes of hungry zombies. Speaking of the walking dead, there'll be a few new moudly mini-bosses to slay and three new…

Here's a sneak peek at upcoming EA Mobile racer Need for Speed No Limits

EA Mobile has announced that it's releasing a brand new mobile Need For Speed 'soon'. That means you can quite safely expect it to look great, play okay, and require much tilting of your respective devices as you drive at dangerous speeds in an urban environment. The game is, rather unsurprisingly, in development by Firemonkeys - famed for releasing one of the most expensive free games to hit a mobile device ever - Real Racing 3. If you're feeling the need for speed yourself, why not watch the ridiculous trailer in which Ken Block does what he does best - driving a car really, really fast.…

Sex Pistols rocker Johnny Rotten admits to blowing £10,000 on F2P iPad games

Feeling a little silly for spending so much of your hard-earned dosh on supposedly ‘free-to-play’ iPad games? Well allow us to assuage that feeling by bringing you the news that John Lydon, AKA Johnny Rotten, has supposedly spent a whopping £10,000 on IAPs in the last two years. The former Sex Pistols star and face of the Country Life adverts spoke to the Telegraph about his recent extravagance, and claimed that “(he) just wanted to up the ante”. “And like an idiot I didn't check myself. I've been checked now. But there's a kid in me, see? A bit of my childhood was taken from me and I'm determined to bring it back." Lydon can safely consider the ante up…
