There's a very good chance that if you own an iOS device, you've run into one of the Chop Chop titles. Developed by Gamerizon, these games are fairly easy to spot.
They usually star cartoon characters with small egg-shaped bonces, and they generally boast easy-to-grasp control schemes.
Chop Chop Ninja World is the latest instalment in the Chop Chop series, and serves as a direct sequel to 2010's Chop Chop Ninja.
Marton Lizée, chief creative officer at Gamerizon, spoke to us about how this is the most expansive Chop Chop game yet, how the online elements add to the experience, and how the title could be heading to a microwave near you.
AppSpy: Can you explain what the aims and objectives for the player are in the main adventure of Chop Chop Ninja World, and how this game improves upon its predecessor?
Marton: At the end of Chop Chop Ninja, the Princess was captured again, right after you saved her from the curse. The Ninjas return home from their quest to find their kingdom completely destroyed and the villagers taken captive by the shogun's forces.
That's the point at which Chop Chop Ninja World begins.
Iro and Jo (the new female Ninja) have to rebuild their kingdom, rescue the villagers, and face not only monsters, but also the shogun's entire army. Oh, and, ultimately, battle the shogun himself.
In Chop Chop Ninja World, we've introduced new gameplay elements, tonnes of awesome new weapons, ninjutsu fighting, kingdom building, different ways of challenging your friends, and many other surprises.
AppSpy: How much do the city-building elements add to the game?
Marton: When you complete a level in Chop Chop Ninja World, you return to your main kingdom. It kind of works like a game hub, where you can buy your weapons and decorate buildings with all the items you've acquired in the game.
Some buildings even have special functions, like the Mission Dojo, where you're given special tasks. You can also travel to your friends' kingdoms and challenge them by beating their mission score.
AppSpy: How important do you think the online options are in keeping people playing the game?
Marton: The social aspect of Chop Chop Ninja World is something that really gives the game an edge.
For example, one of the buildings has a Time Challenge inside of it, so you can visit your friends' dojos and try and beat his high score... and also get some precious coins.
We don't want to give everything away right off the bat, but we have many different competitive gameplay features planned where you'll need to enlist your friends' aid, as well.
AppSpy: Do you have anything planned in terms of future episodes for the game?
Marton: Chop Chop Ninja World runs on episodic content, which will really be essential to the experience we want to bring to our players.
Episodes will have new story content, new features, and even new gameplay elements (as mentioned above). We wanted it to be like a TV show, but instead of impatiently waiting for a new episode of your favorite programme, you'll be impatiently waiting for the next chapter in the Chop Chop Ninja World story.
We really want to create content that is appealing and valuable to everyone: to players who just joined, players who haven't finished the adventure, and players who finished the latest level and want to continue the adventure.
AppSpy: Are there plans for another Chop Chop Ninja title?
Marton: With more than 17 million downloads (and counting) for the Chop Chop titles, it's clear people love our characters and our games.
We're going to try and make sure that every smartphone and tablet owner uses his device for some Chop Chopping, though we're not stopping there.
We have a Chop Chop Ninja TV series on the way, developed in collaboration with Sardines Production. I've already seen a few clips, and it's really quite funny. If we could, we'd have Chop Chop Ninja available on microwaves.
You can download Chop Chop Ninja World for free on iPhone and iPad as a Universal app [iTunes link].
Marton tells us that an Android version is also in the works, and should be released within the next few months.
