The Yamakawa Shuppansha’s “Yamakawa Mook: Japanese Castles” is now an iPhone app. The app is a guide to 127 famous castles from the Warring States (i.e. Sengoku) Period onwards, including all castles considered National Treasures and National Important Cultural Assets of Japan. It includes 865 images of castles, including aerial, current, and historic photographs. The app also contains insightful descriptions and accurate maps.The app is an enhancement that expands the enjoyment gained from trips to castles by even Warring States or the last years of the Edo period enthusiasts. The app includes a robust search feature, allowing searches from a map to those based on the castle holders. It allows you to ‘stamp’ trips to castles, and create a personal history of those visited. The app also contains other features not possible in the book, such as the connectivity of the castle map feature with Google Map.
