Description
Ruāwharo - High Priest is an interactive story which describes how Ruāwharo, a high priest, travelled from Tahiti to the Kaipara region of Aotearoa / New Zealand, and upon his arrival blessed the area by scattering grains of sand from Tahiti, nurtured a large population of fish and oysters, then placed a giant rock and named the place ‘O Ruāwharo’ to let everyone know he had been there, before moving on to explore more of the country. This story was written and illustrated by Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngaringaomatariki, and commissioned by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua as part of a strategy to re-invigorate the Māori language, and has the special feature where the text from the story synchronizes with the student’s narration in both the English and Māori languages.
Other features include:
• Swipe-to-Read™ which allows the reader to hear and play back the story at their own pace.
• Auto Play which allows the reader to enjoy the pre-recorded narration.
• The ‘Use the My Narration’ function which allows the reader to record the story themselves and personally customize the book.
• Zones where pictures can be touched to trigger different sound effects.
