Description
• Asheville - the funky, fabulous and fantastic! •Asheville North Carolina, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is a perfect combination of small town and big city. Take the big city diversity of eateries, lodging, entertainment, art and festivals, and put it all in a town of less than 90,000 inhabitants, with plenty of local charm, local businesses and local goodwill and you have Asheville.
Relax in the luxury that is the Biltmore Estate or Grove Park Inn, or leave it all behind for a week in the mountains, carrying everything you need in your backpack - Asheville can make it happen, along with everything in between. Basking in the glory of being Beer City USA for two years in a row, Asheville is home to 11 breweries with a variety of hometown brews!
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville has wonderful opportunity for almost unlimited outdoor recreation. Visiting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, driving, hiking or biking the Blue Ridge Parkway are just some of the things that are easy day trips from Asheville.

• About the Author •
Kay Holloway Cole has lived in Asheville for 20 years, and while enjoying a variety of careers in Asheville, she has always loved Asheville history, exploring Western North Carolina, and sharing adventures and wonderful locations with friends and family. The fact that their eyes glaze over, they start shifting in their seats and looking towards the door was never a deterrent to her continuing with yet another story or fascinating fact.
Kay lives with her son, daughter and husband on his family farm outside of Asheville. The kids are fifth generation farmers on that land. While hiking and history are her first loves, it's impossible to live in Asheville without loving the unique atmosphere that exists here. Favorite bumper sticker: "Keep Asheville weird".
