Description
* From the Top to the Tip, the City to the Campo *Argentina is the monumental avenues, back streets and epic history of Buenos Aires, the thundering Iguazú Falls and the groaning Moreno Glacier - but it's much more than that. The world's eighth-largest country, only slightly smaller than India, has enough adventures to last a lifetime: consider also the subtropical Iberá marshes with their colorful wildlife, the high wine country and Inka-era ruins of the northwestern Andes, and Mendoza's sky-scraping summits and the flourishing vineyards below them. That's barely mentioning the legendary Patagonian south, with its massive marine mammals and penguin populations, dinosaur discoveries and fossil forests, lush Andean woodlands lining pristine rivers and lakes, and wild high trekking country on the outskirts of its sprawling icefields.
Argentina Travel Adventures covers the highlights, but also offers itinerary suggestions that include unforgettable off-beat sights such as Iruya, a veritable Shangri-la of the Inkas; the extraordinary James Turrell Museum at Bodega Colomé, one of the the world's highest wineries; and the little-known wildlife Mecca of Puerto Deseado, the northernmost refuge of the unique rockhopper penguin. There is also abundant practical information, including hotels and suggested estancias (guest ranches) throughout the country, transportation options, and advice on dealing with the eccentricities of Argentine bureaucracy, including visas and customs, currency exchange, and cultural background. There are numerous entries on national parks, flora and fauna.
