When chosing surface, place your device near to the target surface and in parallel with it, once chosen correctly, you can freely move your device while playing AR camera
Target surface must contain enough details, play on book covers, carpets, desk surface..., avoid playing on plain surfaces such as blank walls, since the AR engine can not recognize them
