Description

The idea of a social club for fellow industrialists was conceived by Mr. G.V.S. Mani in 1981 and the “The Hyderabad Industrialists’ Gymkhana” was founded with 100 founder members. These members contributed for corpus which was used to purchase two parcels of land in a layout, and our current facility is built on the plot facing KBR Park on Road # 2&3 Banjara Hills. Mr. GVS Mani was the first Chairman and Mr. Shyam Agarwal was the first Secretary.

It all started at the Rock House, a rented place on Road No.10 Jubilee Hills. The going was tough, as there was no steady income from monthly subscriptions, regular services could not be offered. In 1984 the club was moved to another rented place on the road at the exit gate of the Jubilee club. The initial years leading up to the end of the 80’s have been a struggle and the business plan seemed unviable.

In 1984 the by-laws of the club were amended, and the name changed to “The Hyderabad Gymkhana” to cater to a wider membership base. The perseverance of them along with Mr. K.L. Reddy, Lt. Col. P.A.R. Choudary, G.G. Chowdary and G. Gangadhar Rao and many such individuals shaped the future of what is now our pride and joy.

By-laws, allotment of memberships, construction of own building, procuring of licenses and many such activities slowly but surely shaped the vision of the founders. It is incumbent upon us to pay homage to our predecessors while we look to a bright future of our “Home away from Home”.
