Ragdoll Blaster 3 Review

Review Backflip Studios By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Ragdoll Blaster 3 Review

If you can't beat'em, join'em - it seems to be a rallying cry for many titles of late and so it's no surprise to see Ragdoll Blaster 3, the latest release in Backflip Studios' flagship games, joining the 'cute and cuddly' revolution. We won't blame them though because the upside is the addition of four new 'ragdolls', each with their own unique skills to add to the game's already fun physics gameplay. One thing the shift from a stylized design to a friendlier 'cute' motif has changed…

Top 3 iPhone Games for January 2012

Toplist By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Top 3 iPhone Games for January 2012

After the big release month of November and the surprisingly full-featured month of December, January was always going to feel like a slump no matter how good its releases were. Thankfully not every developer or publisher was afraid of this stigma and as a result iOS gamers were treated to some really fun games that helped to smooth things out. Starting as of this year we'll be dropping the numbered order of these top releases. The reasoning for this is that they all essentially represent the best of what's on offer, meaning any order given to them is purely personal preference. To offset this I'll be choosing one of the three games as my personal favorite - this will give you an…

Update on AppSpy's Servers

Update on AppSpy's Servers

For a while now the AppSpy site has been gradually suffering from performance issues, mostly due to an increase in traffic and volume of information that requires processing by our back-end. As such our techies have been working hard at keeping things afloat, but obviously it wasn't enough. Thankfully I have some great news to report as our servers will be migrating to something with a lot more grunt - more space and more bandwidth - which means a MUCH faster site for you, our readers. We apologize for all the hassles in reaching the site of late - it's not the ideal situation to be in and we're hoping to make up for it in the coming year with all new features. Thankyou again for your pat…

Off the Leash Review

Review Big Pixel Studios By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Off the Leash Review

I've never really held to the belief that you're either a dog or a cat person - for one I love the heck out of both dogs and cats and just about anything else that's super cute. So it's always good news when Big Pixel Studios, the developers behind games such as Meow Meow Happy Fight and Land-a Panda, drop something new on the App Store. Off The Leash places you in control of a dog who is attempting to break out of a city that has just banned canines and you only have a limited amount…

Running Fred Review

Review Dedalord S.R.L. By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Running Fred Review

Being on the front lines of App releases can make it hard to know what is currently sweeping up the market and as such I was surprised to find out that Temple Run had recently exploded. This is good news for Dedalord, the developer of the 'Fred' series as they explore the endless running option, albeit with far more tricks, traps and areas to master. The eternally unlucky Fred has found himself cursed to die at the hands of the Grim Reaper and to top things off, in his rush to escape,…

Friday News Wrap-Up 3 February 2012

Friday News Wrap-Up 3 February 2012

For those who missed out on the tweets, I was on a personal holiday last week. To cover the time lost I had to queue up content, but the unfortunate side-effect of this is a huge pile of emails, upcoming releases and reviews to barrel my way through now I'm back in the office. I can't say I'm super disappointed though as this week was a real joy, but we'll get to that soon. For now lets touch base with the news for our Friday Wrap-Up for the 3rd of February, 2012. Team Meat + iOS == ???You may need to throw this one on to the rumor pile, but in a recent interview with IndieGames.com, Super Meat Boy creators Team Meat mentioned that 'the next game will probably be iPhone. Probably.'…

Reckless Racing 2 Review

Review Pixelbite By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Reckless Racing 2 Review

Strangely it doesn’t feel as though much time has passed since Pixelbite first introduced iOS gamers to their Reckless Racing franchise, though this may be in-part thanks to a mid-year release of Reckless Getaway reminding players of what the developer can pull off. Reckless Racing 2 doesn’t disappoint as it blasts on to the App Store, showing just how top-down racing should look, feel and play on hand-held touchscreen devices. From the outset the game feels rough and toug…

GHOST TRICK: Phantom Detective Review

Review CAPCOM By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
GHOST TRICK: Phantom Detective Review

CAPCOM’s tenure on the iOS platform has been very hit or miss, with some games failing to live up to the grandeur of the original, while others almost outshine them. GHOST TRICK: Phantom Detective was arguably the unsung hero of 2011 for the Nintendo DS and thanks to a top-notch adaption, the iOS release also has an opportunity to shine. Sharing the same creative mind that developed the Ace Attorney series, Phantom Detective is no less madcap and outlandish. You play as Sissel,…

Hank Hazard Review

Review 游道易Yodo1 By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Hank Hazard Review

It's hard to complain about 'yet another cute physics puzzler' when you're talking about a release from Chillingo, the publisher who is almost entirely responsible for the popularity of the concept. As such it's almost no surprise to note that Hank Hazard by Red Rocket Games fits this bill almost exclusively, however behind its cute exterior and 3-star item collection beats a fantastic little title that shares more with classics like Finger Physics than it does with Cut The Rope or Ang…

Tweet Land Review

Review WHY IDEAS LTD By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Tweet Land Review

When someone tells me about a game that features 'randomly generated' gameplay elements, I can't help but cringe as it's either not as 'random' as the person suggests, or said randomness gets in the way of an otherwise decent title. Sadly Tweet Land by Why Ideas and Tree Interactive falls in to the second category and while the idea of having 'The Internet' influence your game may sound great, it invariably results in an inconsistent experience. Your task involves nothing more than ta…

Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space Ep 1 Review

Review Skunkape Games LLC By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space Ep 1 Review

There's an assumption at play here with Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space Ep 1 (otherwise known as Ice Station Santa): you need to have not already played it on any of the other platforms it has already been released on, which is no easy thing considering its initial PC release was in late 2007. However, hardcore Sam & Max fans; adventure game enthusiasts; and those not yet introduced to the whacky duo may still find themselves compelled to give this short and sweet title a run f…

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land Review

Those who regularly play or have experienced Tabletop RPGs that go beyond basic dice-rolling, numbers and statistics will know just how quickly you can become absorbed in the world you're exploring. Some players may find themselves exploring the terrible and fascinating worlds inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and may even use scenarios devised by the boffins at Chaosium for the 'Call of Cthulhu' series. Now regular iOS gamers can do the same with The Wasted Land, developed by Red Wasp Design…

Paper Monsters Review

Review GameClub By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
Paper Monsters Review

The recent release of Terra Noctis proved once more that not only are platformers still fun, but with the right tweaks they're perfect for iDevices. It seems that Crescent Moon Games and developer Robots vs Wizards were on the same wavelength when coming up with Paper Monsters, but instead of something akin to Yoshi's Island, this game channels simpler games of the era. This isn't the developer's first rodeo when it comes to platformers and you can see shades of their previous title D…

NFL Kicker! Review

Review Full Fat Productions Ltd By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 11 months ago
NFL Kicker! Review

The last time Full Fat dropped a game on to the App Store we were treated to a unique take on the sport as players focused their attention on the role of the quarterback. In continuing with their NFL licensed releases the developer has switched to kicking field goals, bringing it more in line with their previous titles. For those not already familiar with flick-based sports titles, the basic gameplay revolves around attempting to flick a ball (in this case an American football) in to…

Puzzlejuice Review

Puzzlejuice Review

If you haven't reached a comfortable state of equilibrium with common arcade titles that feature gameplay elements such as color-matching, word-finding or block tessellating, then I can only assume you're a very VERY recent convert to the world of gaming. Don't worry, you'll join the fold soon enough and if you're interested in getting there even faster you can play Puzzlejuice because it combines all three. The best part is it caters to those with only a few seconds spare; those who…
