Flashout 2 teaser trailer revealed
Slated for Quarter 4, this sequel to Flashout 3D looks like it's picking up exactly where the first game left off. Obviously taking a few cues from the Wipeout franchise, this futuristic iOS racer will feature improved visuals, a lengthy career mode, better handling, and multiplayer. Take a look for yourselves. Let's just hope that there's a choice of soundtrack. If the trailer is any indication, it is not going to appeal to everyone's taste.…
Continue the Cognition saga on August 15th
When the first episode of Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller released on iOS in March, we gave it a decent review, enjoying the dark tone of the story, and the interesting psychic angle. The series has been moving along steadily on PC, but finally episode two is about to be released on iOS. If you enjoyed your time with episode 1, or like the look of the game from the trailer below, be watching the App Store tomorrow. It will be selling for $3.99…
Defense Technica Review
Defense Technica is a tower defence game which harks backs to early entries in the genre. While many modern TD games send enemies stomping towards you along pre-determined paths, Defense Technica makes you use your own towers to steer and funnel your enemies where you want them. This old-skool formula is married with a card system that acts as a replacement for tower upgrades. Though these cards - which are bought via IAPs - are supposed to be an optional feature, the game does a very…
Watch The Video Reviewrymdkapsel Review
Part real time strategy, part tower defence, part exploration - rymdkapsel is certainly a unique proposition. It's one of those games where your initial playthrough is all about familiarising yourself with the mechanics so that you can start again and tackle the game proper. In fact, you'll have to take numerous runs at rymdkapsel's tough cycle until you manage to discover the secrets of the monoliths, and survive all the attack waves. Like any real time strategy title, rymdkapsel's c…
Watch The Video ReviewThe Question
Hello there loyal Appspy readers! It’s another Monday so it’s time for our third question (yes, I am going to constantly counting these from week to week). Now we’ve talked about favourite games, and we’ve talked about the exciting strengths of the iOS platform, so for this week’s question I thought we’d sort of combine the two... What game makes the best use of the iPhone’s unique control scheme, and why? Whether it’s touch, tilt, camera, or microphone, there have been plenty of games that have offered unique ways to play that aren’t available on other systems. Your choice may be because of originality, uniqueness, or just the amount…
Pivvot Review
Pivvot is described by its creators as a game of “strategic avoidance”. Though guiding your small orb around obstacles relies on your ability to dodge effectively, the game is more about quick reflexes and adaptability than strategy. There are two game modes available from the outset: Voyage, and Endless. Voyage is a finite experience in which must weave your way through a series of obstacles. Tapping the sides of the screen rotates your orb clockwise and counter-clockwise…
Watch The Video ReviewThe Answer
Hey there loyal Appspy readers! For our second edition of ‘The Question’, I asked you what excited you so much about the iPhone platform. The majority of the responses mentioned not only the portability of the platform (as everyone takes their phone with them no matter where they go), but the accessibility of games as well. With dozens of titles released each week, it’s true that players are never at want for gaming content. Of course it is difficult to separate the good from the bad when there is such a consistent slew of releases, but that’s why Appspy is here, to help steer you right! Now for my answer. What excites me most about the iOS platform more than anythi…
Anomaly 2 slated for release before end of year
The PC version of the sequel to one of the better iOS releases last year, Anomaly Warzone Earth was released in May of this year. Fans of the series will be happy to know that you'll be playing Anomaly 2 on your iPhone or iPad before the end of the year. This trailer should tide you over in the meantime. Those who haven't played the original or the psuedo-sequel should check out our reviews. We're looking forward to finally getting our hands on this one, and you should be too![Source - Toucharcade]…
99 Bricks: Wizard Academy collapsing into the App Store this October
On first glance, you might disregard a game like 99 Bricks: Wizard Academy. It's a mix of games like Topple and it uses the Tetris blocks we're all so familiar with. Give the trailer below a bit of time however, and the sheer ludicrous nature of the towers you are creating starts to amuse and endear you to the concept. Based on the popular flash game, 99 Bricks is making its way to the App Store in October. It will be free to play with in-app purchases. As you build larger and larger towers, you will gain new magic spells, unlock more stable foundations, and earn money to purchase new clothes and wands. There's also a feature to take pictures as your towers topple, to share…
Knightmare Tower Review
All too often in iOS games, progression feels like a chore. Knightmare Tower reminds us that you can have a quick-play experience with an upgrade tree that's not only enjoyable, but lets you advance by diving sword-first onto the heads of spiky blobs and dragons. You contriol a rocket propelled knight who must ascend a tower to rescue a series of captured princesses because videogames. Unfortunately, the tower to which these lovely ladies have been taken is as tall as it is perilous.…
Watch The Video ReviewTetris Monsters?
You know, it's amazing that such a concept hasn't been tried out before. Puzzle Quest was a monumental success for combining the match-3 genre with RPG mechanics. It was probably only a matter of time before sometime thought to try it out with Tetris. Have a watch of the teaser trailer. At this point all we know is it's due out soon in Japan, with no statement from EA on a worldwide release thus far. Bizarre.…
Tengami delayed, but still coming out this year
The pop-up book adventure game Tengami looks phenomenal if the following trailer is anything to go by (and you'd hope it is). Once the transitions between pages show themselves along with the tabbed puzzles, you're hooked (as the art design and music is enough to entice as is). Have a look for yourself. It was slated to be released this summer, but the developer's blog has stated that there's a lot of work still to be done. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long, because this looks fascinating.…
The Question
Hello there loyal Appspy readers! Well, it looks like ‘The Question’ was a rousing success, so for the foreseeable future, we shall continue this segment here on the site. Our first question was a little broad, so I thought that this week we’d get more specific. Mobile gaming has really come into its own and changed the scope of the entire industry since the release of the iPhone (and especially since the release of the iPad). That being said, there are still those that refuse to accept iOS as a gaming platform. In a lot of cases, the criticism is valid, what with an over reliance on PC and console ports as flagship releases, as well as the problems developers still have i…
The Answer
Hey there loyal Appspy readers! Well at the start of the week I asked you all what your favourite iOS game was, and was pleased at the numerous varied responses. I admit it was a tough question, and the reasoning for the picks showed that. Everything from time spent playing to nostalgia was covered, and many of you had a hard time cutting your options down to only one title. For instance if I was to select my answer based on time spent playing, my pick would be a game like Punch Quest or Bike Baron. I have loaded these titles up for a quick gaming session of only a few minutes literally hundreds if not thousands of times over the last couple of years. If nostalgia was the criteria, perhap…
In the stranger side of iOS news today...
Did you know that the world's fastest man Usain Bolt is now a character available for purchase in Temple Run 2? Yup, you heard that correctly. His special powers allow him to boost ahead at a record pace while the coin magnet is activated. Acquiring the Jamacian sprinter will cost you $0.99. ...and apparently Bolt has plans to release his own endless runner sometime in the future. We now return you to your normal news stories about game previews.…
