Deus Ex: The Fall to be released this Thursday
The middle of the year usually has the reputation of being rather barren when it comes to big releases, but with Limbo last week and now Deus Ex: The Fall this week, that's becoming untrue. The looks to be the true sequel to the excellent Deus Ex: Human Revolution, is iPad exclusive and will cost $6.99. The game looks absolutely great in the trailers, but the big question will be how it controls and performs on the hardware. Stay tuned for our review. In the meantime you can tide yourself over by watching the announcement trailer again.…
Leaping Legend Review
Any platforming fan will gladly talk endlessly about the virtues of the wall jump. Given its consistant use in both 2D and 3D platforming games - and its inherent awesomeness - it wasn't going to be too long before someone had the bright idea to build an endless-runner around the concept. Enter Leaping Legend. A princess has been kidnapped and held in a tower, and as per usual, it is up to an intrepid adventurer to save her. Little do both parties know that this tower never ends. The…
Watch The Video ReviewLAYTON BROTHERS MYSTERY ROOM Review
If you own a Nintendo DS, chances are you've heard of the Professor Layton games. If not, they're a series of puzzle adventures in which Hershel Layton and his apprentices solve mysteries, riddles, and logic problems. A hallmark of the series has been its charming art style, memorable music, and likeable characters. Thankfully, all of this applies to iOS spin-off Layton Brothers: Mystery Room as well. You control Lucy Baker, a rookie cop who works for the enigmatic Alfendi Layton, one…
Watch The Video ReviewThe Shadow and the Flame Release Date
Back in April I excitedly wrote about Ubisoft's upcoming remake to Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame. I loved the reimagining of the first title years ago, and have high hopes for this one as well. We know its release date now, it's the 25th of July. To tide you over, here's the trailer again. I can't wait to give it a go!…
Tiny Thief gets Release Date
Icebreaker: a Viking Voyage was the first game to come out under the heading of Rovio's new publishing firm Rovio Stars. Tiny Thief is the second. It will be released next week on July 11th. It's certainly the more potentially interesting of the two in my eyes, but we'll see how it plays upon release. Mark your calendars and in the meantime have a look at the trailer again.…
Return to Castlerama Review
When Castlerama was released in 2011, it was described by its creators as a “photo-realistic walk”. Its apparent success has led to a full fledged game known as Return to Castlerama. In this case, the term 'photo-realistic walk' is only partially apt. While the are some nice lighting effects, it's hardly what we would call photo-realistic. But you definitely do a lot of walking. You play as David, the son of a herbalist who discovers that he has a greater destiny as saviou…
Watch The Video ReviewGreedy Dwarf Rolling into the App Store This Thursday
The glut of endless runners has started to fade away as time goes on, so usually that means that any new release in a previously saturated genre will have something new and novel to add to the mechanics already in place. While Greedy Dwarf doesn't look to set the world on fire, its melding of 3D and side scrolling endless runners combined with mine cart action looks like a lot of fun. Have a look at the trailer and see what we mean when the gameplay starts. The game launches for $0.99 and boasts no in-app purchases.…
Riptide GP2
It's been a while since Vector Unit released the original Riptide GP on the App Store (check out our review here). It was a very well made jetski racer with beautiful presentation and solid controls. The sequel looks to continue this tradition with the inclusion of multiplayer (an omission from the first game), and controller support. The following is the teaser trailer... No word on a release date as of yet, but we'll keep you posted.…
The Walking Dead: 400 Days out on June 11th
The iOS version at least. That week has daily releases on every platform under the sun with our Apple devices ending the festivities. Now this is DLC for the original game and covers five seperate stories. The iOS port is not up to the standards of the PC or console versions, but it is servicable, and we expect this to be no different. If you enjoyed the first season, this is a no-brainer. There is a reason that The Walking Dead won so many awards last year for the emotional investment it took out of most of those who played it without offering much in the way of gameplay outside some really tough moral choices. We'll see what 400 Days adds to what transpired at the end. Here's th…
Agricola iPad Review
Some board games have an extraordinary number of pieces, making the simple act of setting up a monumental task in itself. Now aficionados will tell you that's part of the allure, but especially with a game like Agricola, the benefit of being able to starta game in a couple of taps cannot be understated. Agricola is a turn based strategy game based around medeavil farming. Now stop right there. Before you cease reading or close the video window, hear us out. While the game may seem ove…
Watch The Video ReviewRelease date for Plants vs. Zombies 2 pushed back
Yes, it looks like the July 18th release date of Plants vs. Zombies 2 is going to have to be pushed back until later in the summer. A particular reason has not yet been given, just that developer PopCap want to "make sure the game lives up to fan's expectations". Pushing back a release date can do a lot of good, as it gives the team time to remove bugs, clean up the programming for a smoother experience, and put an all round polish on their release. This highly anticipated follow-up is not going to lose its potential audience by due to a one month delay, especially when that delay could be beneficial to the overall quality. So sit tight, and look forward to playing a (hopefully) bug-f…
Teaser Trailer for Pivvot
Whittaker Trebella, creator of the interesting take on the sliding block puzzle, Polymer (our review can be found here) has released a teaser trailer for his new game Pivvot. It's described as a 'strategic avoidance' game. Take a look for yourselves. The game is due out sometime in July.…
Sid Meier's Ace Patrol iPad Review
Sid Meier's Ace Patrol is the latest experiment from the acclaimed creator of the Civilization franchise. It's a game that echoes of the combat changes made to the series in Civilization V. Thrown into World War I, you take to the skies as a flying ace. It's up to you to master your aircraft: changing altitude, rolling, banking, and blasting your enemies until they burst into flames. However, these dogfights play out not in real time, but as a turn based experience on a hexagonal grid.…
Watch The Video ReviewLimbo out on iOS Next Week
Some of you will be familiar with Limbo, a puzzle platformer released on XBLA in 2010 that has been ported to both the PSN, PC, and Mac. It's known for its striking monochromatic art style, generous checkpoint system and punishing trial and error puzzle gameplay. Here's a trailer of the original release. Here's hoping that the controls are well executed on the touch screen. We'll certainly let you now how the port holds up next week.…
Sprinkle Islands putting the fire out on July 11th
It's been two years since the release of the original Sprinkle (check out our review here), and now Mediocre Games are about to release the follow-up, titled Sprinkle Islands. It looks to feature the same interesting water based physics of the original, but has undergone an aesthetic change that makes aspects of the game look a little bit like claymation, which is of course amazing. Check out the trailer below and keep a look out for this as it releases on July 11th.…
