We're nearly there. This weekend sees the start of the new English Premier League football season, and it's shaping up to be an absolute barnstormer.

If last season's Leicester win took everyone by surprise, then this season could see the big teams striking back with a vengeance. Not only do we have three of the world's best managers taking new positions - Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Chelsea's Antonio Conte, and Jose Mourinho at Manchester United - but the latter has signed the most expensive and sought-after player in the world in Paul Pogba.

It's the biggest show in football, and the Premier League 2016/2017 season could be the best year.

With that in mind, here are a few apps that will help you get the most from this most promising of seasons.

Premier League - Official App

Premier League

The Premier League has just rolled out its official app, so here would be a good place to start. Not only does it offer up to date fixture news, player profiles, live blogging on matches, and all the results and tables, but it also lets you manage your Fantasy Premier League team.

Sky Go

Sky Go

If you're a serious footy fan with a bit of disposable income, you're quite probably a Sky Sports subscriber. If so, this Sky Go app will let you watch live matches on your mobile device, along with the channel's highly-regarded pundit team. And this year, Neville's back.

BT Sport

BT Sport

Of course, Sky is no longer the only name when it comes to live Premier League coverage. BT has made a massive splash in recent years, and the BT Sport app is a worthy parallel offering to Sky Go in bringing live action to subscribers.

MatchPint

MatchPint

Of course, very often you're out and about when Premier League matches are on - they do tend to take place on weekend afternoons and evenings, after all. This is where MatchPint comes in, offering you clear direction as to which local pubs are showing a selected game. Very handy.

Forza Football

Fora Football

You can scarcely move for live score apps on the App Store, but Forza Football is definitely one of the best. It's comprehensive with multiple competitions to choose from outside of the Premier League itself, and it benefits from a very slick and intuitive UI. Oh, and there's Apple Watch support, too.

Stats Zone

Stats Zone

Keeping track of results, scorers, and assists is all very well. But for a certain breed of obsessive fan, the more detail the better. Stats Zone is the app for such fans, giving you a link to the exhaustive stat-collecting powers of Opta. Don't just find out who scored - find out exactly how it happened.
