FIFA 17 Mobile is out now! Sort of. Well, it is if you live in Canada. So if you really need to play it right this very moment, looks like you need to hop on a flight to Vancouver, my friends.
Or, you know, make a Canadian App Store account. Our sister site Pocket Gamer has a guide on how to make a foreign iTunes account if you want to do that.
Alternatively, you can read our piece on everything you need to know about FIFA 17 Mobile! Because who needs to actually play games, right?
To be frank, you might not want to play this one at all - you can read our impressions of FIFA 17 Mobile here.
Anyway, here goes.
It's just called FIFA Mobile, finally
We thought this was going to be the case last year - since, you know, that's what they said.
That ended up just being called FIFA 16: Ultimate Team, while the illustrious and imaginative title of FIFA Mobile was held back for this year's edition. Fun.
It's going to be like this for a while (apparently)
EA has said this iteration of FIFA on your phone will be the base game for years to come. You'll only need FIFA Mobile from now on, the publisher says, as it will be served by regular updates to keep it in line with the console edition and any subsequent improvements.
Let's hope the EA keeps to its word. FIFA Mobile hasn't impressed so far, so it'll need some serious improvements to stay relevant.
Ultimate Team is back!
As if it was ever in doubt.
FIFA Mobile is roughly 99% Ultimate Team. There is also a dedicated FIFA 17: Ultimate Team companion app, if that's more to your tastes.
This dedicated mobile game, on the other hand, is separate to the console editions, and attempts to imitate its card collecting mania with mini packs of players and tokens.
You can't play full matches
That's right. It may be a football game, but you can't actually play full football matches.
Instead, we get Attack Mode, which pits you against another human opponent, but played asynchronously.
So you play 45 minutes (about four real life minutes), score as many goals as possible against an AI opponent playing on behalf of your human enemy, then wait for them to respond, which might be hours or days later.
You also only play the attacking phases of play. So you start with the ball, play an attack, then the game skips a few in game minutes until your next attack, when you try to score again.
It's more social than ever (sort of)
As well as Attack Mode being multiplayer focused (even if that's sometimes a bit of a white lie - see above), you've also got leagues - groups of players coming together to compete - and live events, which are 1v1 asynchronous.
This is all well and good, but it seems there's no way to play with your friends. It's just like when I was six years old again :(
