We’ve seen it with Square Enix releasing its back catalogue of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games, we’ve seen it with shoddy ports of the first two Tomb Raider games, and now Nintendo is actively embracing mobile, I think it’s going to happen.
What’s going to happen you say? Well I think we’re going to see the Pokemon games getting official ports onto iOS and Android. There’s almost literally no reason why this shouldn’t happen, and plenty of reasons why it should.
And so I’ve made a list of the reasons why it should. You know, what with Sun and Moon being out now and that sounding like a lovely SEO trap for people to stumble upon. Eh here goes.
Because it would work
It just would. Pokemon games have always been at their best when they’ve been portable. And there’s nothing more portable than your phone. Well, there probably is but you know what I mean.
Being able to whip out your mobile and have a couple of minutes wandering around catching and fighting sounds like a damn fine thing to be able to do.
The audience is there
Er, Pokemon GO? Heard of that? Of course you have. You’re probably playing it right now. People still love Pokemon. People have phones. The equation is simple.
Released as premium products they might not do the enormous numbers that GO has done, but I reckon an awful lot of people would snap them up sharpish.
The connections
There are so many ways you could share your Pokemon on your phone. I mean sure it’s a computer and all that, but it’s also a phone, and that means a whole bunch of NFC and Bluetooth and all that.
It’d certainly be easier than finding your Gameboy and that cable and a friend. You could even just Facebook Pokemon to each other. That definitely sounds like a thing.
Because it’s easy
It’s getting harder and harder to find and play old games. And who has the time to go shopping for things nowadays? I mean I do but other people might not.
And it’s not like Nintendo is making any money from second hand Gameboys and copies of the game. So that makes it a sound financial decision too.
