Another week has wandered past like a friend you only ever see briefly. Now as it disappears into the middle distance we like to call the recent past, it’s time to take a moment to consider just what happened over the past seven days.
I mean, not consider consider, let’s not get too introspective here. I’m sure we’ve all done terrible things since last Friday, but let’s just move on and not dwell on them. Instead let’s look at some games that came out recently.
Phew, dodged a bullet there. Okay here’s the best five games that came out this week. To be honest it hasn’t been the best week, but then all those Americans are giving thanks for their toxic debt and racist new president, so we’ll let them off just this once.
Re-Volt 3 Resurrection
The third game in the Re-Volt series, probably. If you’re not familiar with it it’s all about driving radio controlled cars around well designed tracks and having a decent amount of fun while you do.
There’s a load of cars to collect, plenty of different tracks to master, and a variety of game modes. And you can compete with people all around the world to prove that you’re the best at driving double imaginary cars.
Kathy Rain
A point and click adventure very much in the classic mould when it comes to graphics, Kathy Rain also manages to deal with a lot of issues that most games shy away from. And that’s got to be championed.
A great story, great characters, and plenty of adventuring and puzzling to sink your teeth into. This is one game that’s worth checking out for multiple reasons. And all of them are good.
Microsoft Solitaire Collection
I realise we said we weren’t going to dwell on the past in this list, but it’s a bit hard not to when Microsoft releases a collection of Solitaire games. I mean, that’s basically the past in a single app.
If you owned a computer since Windows 95 came out then there’s a good chance you’ll get all misty eyed at this. I had Windows Solitaire on a really really old Windows Phone. That was pretty cool.
Drakenlords
This one’s an old school CCG. It’s very much in the Magic mould, so think lots of card combinations, a dark fantasy theme and a game that you’re going to need to put some time into to really understand.
But that’s a good thing, right? There are a few twists to the formula as well, so if you’re a fan of dramatically laying cards on a digital board this could well be the one for you.
Don’t Grind
I just really like LaserDog games. And this is a LaserDog game, so it sort of makes sense that it was going to end up on the list. And here it is, on the list.
This one’s about keeping a banana away from a bunch of lasers and circular saws. It’s a twitchy tappy arcade game and it’s super hard. But if that floats your boat it’s well worth a look.
