Oh June. Beautiful summer, when the sun was high in the sky and the birds were singing and I don’t know it probably rained a lot, I don’t really remember the summer that much if I’m honest.
It’s possible that you don’t remember as well. But that’s okay, because we’ve got just the list to prick your memory cells. It’s this list, and it’s the latest part of our retrospective looking back at the last twelve months of iOS gaming.
There were quite a lot of good games that came out in June. But these are, in my humble opinion, the best of a quite decent bunch. There’s some arcade stuff, a puzzler, and two games that takes place in a dungeon. Standard.
Redungeon
Nitrome’s take on the dungeon crawler. But inevitably it’s a lot more complex than that. And also a bit simpler. You know what Nitrome’s like.
This one has a bit of an endless runner vibe to it, as well as the usual wandering through a subterranean hell hole gathering up as much loot as you can.
It’s super tricky in places, and it’s not afraid to throw in ideas from other genres whenever it feels like it. There’s plenty to do, plenty to collect, and you’re going to want to see it all.
Perchang
Don’t let the simple controls of this one fool you, it’s a fiendishly difficult puzzler that’s equal parts Lemmings and playing around with crazy contraptions in your back garden.
There are a variety of things to turn on and off at the right time. But some of them turn on at the same time and it can all get a bit confusing while you try and work out what you’re supposed to be doing.
There’s an awful lot of fun to be had here as well. And once you figure out a level you won’t be able to stop yourself from having a little cheer.
Heroes of Loot 2
Another dungeon crawler makes it onto June’s list. This one isn’t all that typical either though. Its violence is more like a shooter than your average underground battler.
You pick from a variety of heroes, and then go out there looting. The action is delivered in meaty chunks, and there’s a lovely rhythm to all of the smacking and shooting that you’re getting into.
There’s lovely graphics, plenty of things to experience, and more often than not you’re getting deeper into the chaos with every run. Which is a good thing.
