The 5 best free to play mobile games of 2016

By , on December 30, 2016

Well yesterday we had a look at the best premium games of the year, so now it’s time to look at the best free to play games. There are some proper corkers on this list, and you’d be silly not to play them.

I mean, you can not play them if you want, that’s really up to you, I’m just trying to create content that some people might be interested in. That’s basically my job. Okay?

Anyway, as per usual you can go to town on us in the comments if you think we’ve made any mistakes here. Just make sure you’re not too mean because we’re sensitive flowers and we’ll probably go and cry and not come back out until 2017.

Not just one of the best free to play games this year, one of the best games this year hands-down. Wander around, catch Pokemon, have a lovely old time.

It’s the sort of game that brings people together in the best possible way. And it’s constantly being updated. A mobile game that bridges so many gaps it’s almost impossible not to fall in love with it.

Disney Crossy Road

It’s Crossy Road, but it’s got Disney characters in it. And all of the settings are Disney settings. That might not sound like it’s that important, but when everything is presented with this much heart it really is.

Hop around, avoid obstacles, and go a little bit mad while you try and collect all the characters. Arcade mobile gaming pretty much perfected.

Clash Royale

A game that pretty much single handedly invented a genre. It’s fresh, it’s fantastic, and if it gets its claws into you it’s going to leave scars.

Basically a MOBA with a midcore twist and games shrunk down for perfect mobile play sessions. There’s a reason this one has done so well, and it’s because it’s really good.

Rodeo Stampede

This one sees you leaping from animal to animal while they’re all legging it down a tightly packed lane. And then collecting the animals to put in your zoo.

It might sound silly, and it is, but it’s also incredibly enjoyable. It’s got a brilliant bounce to it, and it’s the sort of game you’ll happily dip into time and time again.

Probably the surprise mobile hit of the year. It’s multiplayer snake, but it’s all about chasing high scores and avoiding the giant worms other people have created.

It’s not the most polished game you’re going to play, but it does have something special about it all the same. Plus it’ll make you angry and happy and frustrated all at once.
