This Tuesday I thought we’d have a look at the best arcade games on the App Store. Mainly because it seemed like a good idea when I thought of it and I couldn’t be bothered to think of anything else.
I’ve gone pretty wide with the term as well, because that’s the sort of thing that I like to do. And you can’t stop me. Well, you could try. But you’d be doomed to fail from the get-go.
If you think I’m wrong, or you think I’m super right, then feel free to have a shout about it in the comments. That is, after all, what they’re there for.
Skiing Yeti Mountain
A skiing game about skiing down a mountain. And there are yetis involved. Really it’s all there in the title, screaming at you before you’ve even downloaded it.
It’s a simple game to play, but it’ll also suck you in with its surprising depth. And there are a lot of levels here as well. Like, loads and loads of levels.
Plus it’s cold outside, so it should see you through the winter months pretty darn well. Just be ready to get proper addicted to its sliding fun.

Operation Dracula
A beautifully retro shooter that trades on your rose-tinted view of the past and does it with supreme aplomb.
There’s a swagger to the game that sets it apart from others in the genre. And there’s a level of challenge here as well that’ll pluck at the frustration glands of most players.
Again, there’s a lot to do here as well. And you’ll find that once you’ve jumped in, it’s incredibly difficult to drag yourself out again.

1001 Attempts
A game about running around and trying to collect as many gems as you can. And getting chased around by an evil green meteor.
It’s super simple to look at and the controls won’t leave you scratching your head. But you will scream a lot of swear words at it. And sometimes that’s all you want.
This is exactly the sort of game that exemplifies the style of the arcade games on the App Store. Hectic, addictive, and guaranteed to make you clench your fists in rage. Basically perfect.
