This week’s Thursday find is a blocky arcade shooter with more than a handful of twists. It’s sharp, it’s fun, and it’s the perfect size for mobile play.
It doesn’t have the elegance of a bullet hell shooter, but it does have the delightful twitchiness and the big neon explosions.
Oh, and it’s called Pixel Craft. Which is both an excellent name, and sort of a bit of a pun. So that’s why it got my vote. Not that there’s anyone else here to vote for it.
Pixel Craft
Imagine if Crossy Road and Space Invaders made the beast with two backs while most of the 80’s watched on and cheered. Actually, don’t imagine that, but that’s basically what Pixel Craft is.
You control a blocky star fighter with one finger, weaving through waves of equally blocky bad-guys, trying to destroy everything that moves. And I do mean everything.
There are weapon upgrades to collect, huge bosses to try and take down, and all the bits and bobs that you might expect from an arcade shooter.
But the game also has a streak of the new arcade running through it. There are gifts to collect, cards to use, purchases to make, and loads of different ships to try and unlock.
It’s not just the compulsion to do better that pushes you on, it’s the desire to get shiny new stuff. Because quite frankly, who doesn’t like shiny new stuff?
The game is out right now, and if you like shooting things, collecting things, or beautifully chunky graphics, then you should give it a go. And if you like all of those things with some chaos thrown in, then you should definitely give it a go.
