There was a time when the prospect of console-quality gaming on mobile appeared to be as far away in the future as jetpacks, hoverboards, and space travel. Well, not anymore, folks as we've already had some pretty epic-looking games hit mobile just last year and in 2015 the trend looks set to continue.
Below we have our top list of the very best PC and console franchises that are set to hit our mobiles and tablets this year. Prepare your festively-battered wallets, AppSpies. If the list below is anything to go by, 2015 looks set to be an expensive year for the dedicated mobile gamer.
1. Need for Speed: No Limits - The very first mobile exclusive Need for Speed. Expect it to look fantastic but cost a bomb, regardless of it being 'free-to-play' or not.
2. The Witcher Battle Arena - Unfortunately, this isn't a grand and dark low-fantasy RPG. What it is is a mobile MOBA featuring popular (and unpopular) characters from The Witcher franchise.
3. Total War Battles: Kingdom - Not quite the tactical mobile RTS you may have been expecting, this is a persistant mobile RTS in a similar vein to Tiny Realms or Clash of Clans but with a Total War flavour.
4. Assassin's Creed: Identity - It's official: there are too many Assassin's Creed games. What's most impressive about this one, however, is the fact that it looks almost exactly like the console versions.
5. The Talos Principle - Quite how developers at Devolver Digital are going to squeeze this gorgeous PC shooter / puzzler onto Android is beyond me but I'm far from complaining. Apparently it's pretty good, you see.
6. Heroes of Might & Magic III HD - This isn't just a port, it's a port of arguably the best game in the franchise. It's been given a bit of a visual overhaul (which is where the 'HD' bit comes in) but it looks set to stay very faithful to the original version.
7. The Deer God - This has been pretty close to the top of my 'Must Play' list ever since I first saw it. It looks gorgeous, creative, pixelated, full of atmosphere, and it can't come soon enough.
8. Super Meat Boy Forever - I won't hold my breath for this - it's been delayed, cancelled, and delayed since it was first announced. If it does arrive, however, you can rest assured it will be awesome. Team Meat don't do bad games.
9. Death Road to Canada - It's a roguelike road-trip game by the developer of Wayward Souls. Need I say more?
