Developer Designlayout’s newly released card-based strategy game, Captain We Have A Problem, will be instantly recognisable to anyone who’s dabbled in the hugely popular Reigns series. It takes the Tinder-like binary decision making of Nerial’s games to space with some weird and wild results, and it’s now available to Android players in early access.
You and your crew of intrepid space explorers are now a far-off colony’s last hope for survival. It’s up to you to traverse the darkest corners of the universe and deliver them some essential cargo.
It’s going to be a long, challenging journey, fraught with dangerous encounters and plenty of life-or-death decisions. Much like Reigns, the choices you make throughout will have an impact – either immediate or long-term – so you’ll need to think carefully at every turn.
The game boasts over 100 different events to play through. They’re typically quite funny, with a decidedly tongue-in-cheek tone. Along the way, you can expect to bump into sentient cacti, ancient ‘Warp Gods’, villainous space pirates, rogue AI, and – of course – several cosmic vampires.
You’ll travel through 10 varied space sectors before reaching the colony. There does appear to be some story content after that, though you’ll have to play the game to discover it for yourself.
In future, the game will be updated to add a Black Market and Trade Stations, various factions, more secret events and deaths, and plenty of unlockable achievements.
If you’d like to check out the early access version, you’ll find Captain We Have A Problem available for download now over on Google Play.
