After plenty of speculation, Mario Kart Tour finally has a solid release date. You can expect to see the colourful kart racer pop up on Google Play and the App Store on September 25th, with pre-registration now open.

Along with the release date announcement, Nintendo has also put out a fresh gameplay trailer. We get to see several of the tracks, including one set in Paris, as well as some of the classic power-ups that fans will recognise straight away. At launch, there’ll be 25 racers to play as and a whopping 16 cups, each boasting 3 races.
Dr. Mario World’s monetisation and hearts system have made me more sceptical of this one than I'd like. I’m hopeful that the right balance can be struck, and that the game’s pacing doesn’t have to suffer just because it’s free to play.
It’ll also be interesting to see how it stacks up against the terrific Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch. If you’re interested, you can pre-register for Mario Kart Tour over on both the App Store and Google Play. The game’s official site does mention that you’ll need a Nintendo account in order to participate, but they’re super easy to set up.
