Marvel Contest of Champions' roster is set to expand once again with the arrival of its latest hero, Red Guardian. While his addition is undoubtedly pretty neat, I have to imagine that he was originally intended to make his grand appearance alongside the release of the since-delayed Black Widow, now slated to hit cinemas November 6th.

Indeed, his in-game version is clearly inspired by the film's take on the character, who is said to be the Soviet equivalent of Captain America. He'll be portrayed by Stranger Things actor David Harbour in the upcoming film.

Alexei Shostakov, otherwise known as Red Guardian, was one of the Soviet Union's deadliest pilots, ruling over the skies of Stalingrad and Kursk during WWII. He was chosen to be the union's answer to Cap by Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. In order to train him up and give him an all-new identity, the KGB faked his death. It was seemingly all worth it in the end, though, as he's now a master of up-close combat.

You'll find a detailed breakdown of his stats and abilities right here. And those yet to give Marvel Contest of Champions a go can download it now from over on the App Store and Google Play as a free-to-play game.
