If you’re working from home at the moment and miss the daily commute, there’s now a game on Google Play that lets you simulate that experience.

Please Mind the Closing Doors is a pixel-art arcade game where you’re a busy commuter trying to contend with the unreliable doors on the tube system. Your character is constantly dealing with doors that are opening and closing, and it’s up to you to save them from being crushed.

Featuring an ‘infinite drop’ type of gameplay, tapping on the screen prevents the commuter from proceeding through a door that may not be safe to do so. You’ve got to time your jump perfectly so you can make it through unharmed. There are three types of doors, each dealing a set amount of damage.

The game has an inspired NES-style soundtrack and graphics to go along with it, with each character sporting a unique business-themed look and a mixture of different animations for an extra degree of variety. The music is also diverse, where tracks can go from fast, action-paced crescendos to having a more bubbly, casual vibe.

To add to the arcade-ness of it all, you can also pick up three types of power-ups that let you shrink, be temporarily invincible, or have a huge score, and these offer new ways to play each run. This, combined with its 8-bit aesthetic, makes it feel like a true callback to old arcade games. On this, developer TheoTGames said: “Adding a true arcade feel is the retro text throughout the game, reminiscent of the 80s and 90s arcade classics.”

Reliving the hustle and bustle of the early commute normally sounds like a nightmare, but in the age we’re living in right now, it might just be the reminder of simpler times you’re looking for. You can play Please Mind the Closing Doors on Google Play for Android.
