nWay’s Battlepalooza is a new battle royale that uses real world cities as a front for the matches that take place. It’s heading to iOS and Android on 10th December.

It’s presented as a digital game show where players from all around the world can compete for prizes. Every match features 25 players competing against each other, or with options for team game modes including Duos and Trios. The multiplayer uses a drop-in system meaning getting into matches will be quick and seamless, a big change from your typical battle royale experience.

Played from a top-down perspective, the game will rely heavily on strategy, skill and luck to win, and so it’s worth practicing as much as possible if you want to emerge victorious. It also uses systems from other game genres including RPG loadouts and the mid-match progression systems found in MOBAs. “Battle royales are competitive and the multiplayer action is unpredictable, making it one of the most engaging and replayable genres,” said Taehook Kim from nWay. “However, they aren’t for everyone. If you don’t have a high level of shooting game experience, skills, and reflexes, you don’t have much of a chance at winning. That’s not fun. That’s why we made a fun battle royale game for the rest of us.”

It’s being developed in partnership with Google’s Real World Games team, making use of Google Maps’ many functions to turn familiar locations into battle arenas. It’ll only feature two cities on launch; Las Vegas and San Francisco, but more are coming in future updates.

If you’re interested, Battlepalooza will be released on 10th December and you can pre-register now on the iOS App Store or Google Play for Android. It’s a free to play title with in-app purchases.
