Publisher Aspyr in partnership with Lucasfilm will be releasing the classic Obsidian RPG Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords to iOS and Android devices next week on 18th December, sixteen years after its original release.
It’s a game set in the Star Wars universe thousands of years before the films, where the Sith have driven the Jedi to a near-extinction. You play as a lone Jedi who must reconnect with the Force and regain their strength to fight off the imminent danger that awaits them.
Originally released in 2004 on PC as a sequel to the earlier Knights of the Old Republic, KOTOR II’s mobile port brings touch screen controls and a scaled-down experience for handheld devices while no sacrifice to visual quality has been made.
“Fans have been asking for a mobile version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II for so long, and we’re thrilled to finally bring it to them,” says Elizabeth Howard from Aspyr on the upcoming launch of the game for mobile. “We’re proud to continue working with Lucasfilm to bring classic titles like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II to modern platforms.”
The game originally sold a reported 1.5 million copies within the first couple of years of its release, so it’s safe to say there was a market for it back then and there still is now. If Knights of the Old Republic II has finally been brought to mobile, maybe we could one day see Battlefront or Empire at War make an appearance on there. How about it, Lucasfilm?
You can pre-order Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords from the iOS App Store or Google Play for Android. It will be a premium title releasing on 18th December, and will cost $14.99.
