SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated has been ported to mobile devices by HandyGames and Purple Lamp Studios, coming about half a year after its release on PC and home consoles.
It’s based on the popular children’s cartoon that has aired on Nickelodeon for the past two decades. The game lets you play as SpongeBob, Sandy and Patrick as they go on an adventure to stop the evil Plankton from taking over Bikini Bottom using an army of robots. It released last year on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and is a remake of the original Battle for Bikini Bottom that launched on PS2, Xbox and GameCube.
The game features many iconic locations from the cartoon, including Jellyfish Fields, Rock Bottom and Goo Lagoon. Each level has a bunch of robots you’ll need to destroy as well as golden spatulas hidden throughout that you need to collect. Some are pretty obvious to find, but there are others which are well hidden and will require a sharp eye to find.
Popular characters from the show such Gary, Squidward and Mr. Krabs also make an appearance, often showing up to give you a task to complete for a spatula. There are also a bunch of socks left lying around by Patrick which you’ll have to find if you want to get 100%, and these are even more hidden in the levels making them a huge challenge.
I played through SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated on PC just earlier this month, and so I reckon it’ll be suited really well for mobile platforms. It’s particularly fun if you have nostalgia for the show as it was in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, but anyone who is fond for childish 3D platformers should be able to enjoy this.
You can download SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated now from the iOS App Store and Google Play for Android. It’s a premium title costing £8.99.
