Nintendo held a new Direct on Wednesday night, the first major one in nearly 18 months, and one of the reveals was a new Star Wars multiplayer game by Zynga called Star Wars: Hunters is coming to the Switch later this year. We also have new information that the game will be coming to mobile platforms too on iOS and Android.
Star Wars: Hunters is set between Episodes VI and VII of the iconic franchise and has you taking part in squad-based multiplayer battles featuring a variety of characters from the films and expanded lore. Here’s a teaser trailer to see more, although we still don’t have any solid gameplay to look at yet.
The battles are real-time, set in locations from the iconic franchise and will have you playing as different unusual characters including bounty hunters, Rebel soldiers and Imperial stormtroopers. As it’s set after Episode 6, there’s no doubt the story will deal with the remnants of the Galactic Empire dealing with the fall of its government. And there might even be a cheeky tie-in to The Mandalorian, Disney+’s hallmark original show, too.
“Bringing Star Wars: Hunters to the Nintendo Switch and its passionate fan-base marks an exciting milestone for Zynga,” says Bernard Kim from Zynga.
“We created Star Wars: Hunters for every fan who has ever dreamed about playing a high-intensity action game set in the Star Wars galaxy and are excited to see Switch players embrace our foray into console gaming.”
Star Wars: Hunters will release on the iOS App Store, the Google Play for Android store, and the Nintendo Switch eShop some time later this year. It will be a free to play game with in-app purchases.
