During Sony’s State of Play presentation last night featuring upcoming titles that were releasing on PlayStation, Square Enix revealed plans for a PS5-enhanced upgrade to last year’s Final Fantasy VII Remake, but the developer also announced two mobile games coming to iOS and Android which would form part of the new Final Fantasy VII universe.
The first game revealed is called Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, which is a Battle Royale action game set in Midgar before the events of the original game. You use your magic, weapons and other abilities in a fight for survival against some iconic locations from Final Fantasy VII.
You can check out a trailer for the game here. As you can see, it seems to blend a nice combination of classic Final Fantasy visuals with the modern Battle Royale formula.
Meanwhile, the second game coming is Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, and is a sort-of remake of the remake. It’s an episodic singleplayer game covering the entire timeline of Final Fantasy VII, including the events of the original game and additional media. As you can see from the trailer below, it seems to switch between a graphics style reminiscent of the original 1997 title while exploring, and then the remake’s more modern graphics when in combat.
So while console fans who have been eagerly awaiting the second part to Final Fantasy VII Remake will have to hold on a bit more, these two new titles may provide some satisfaction until that title finally releases. More information on both of these games will be coming in the future.
Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier will launch later this year, and Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis comes out the year after. Both will release on the iOS App Store and Google Play as free to play games.
