In a spot of excellent news for marine biologists, a group often overlooked by developers, Midjiwan has released a rework of its Aquarion Tribe. Our slightly soggy heroes were released in 2017 so it is about time they got a fresh lick of paint, and the updates look pretty good.
The biggest change you will notice is that every Aquarion land unit is sporting a mermaid tail, allowing them to traverse water at the expense of slower land speed. You can also now build structures on water, with Lost Cities being discoverable from deep sea ruins. To address the lack of undersea roads, the new Atoll structures can be used to connect your aquatic real estate.
Now, you may think that this lack of land speed might put the Aquarions on the backfoot given most warfare happens on terra firma. Well, the new flooded terrain feature allows land and naval units to share the same space, giving you a way to bring the fury of the water to these landlubbers.
To take advantage of this new function, you can turn to a fan favourite unit; Crabs. The rework has given these snippy little so-and-sos a new Autoflood ability. Wherever they walk, the tile gets flooded, giving your army of mermaid-appendage warriors easy access to any army.
In addition to changes to the existing lineup, we are also getting a few new units to play around with. You can recruit an army of sharks who specialise in surprise attacks, a trait which is both surprising, yet oddly understandable. Those in need of a sturdy bulwark can set up a wall of Jellies packing defensive electric shocks, and behind these, you can park a pack of Puffers who can launch long-range bombardments. And people say Aquaman is the worst member of the Justice League.
If this rework gives you the itch to show off your inner Poseidon, then The Battle of Polytopia is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
