Team Meat, the independent studio behind the console and PC indie platformer Super Meat Boy, announced on Twitter yesterday that they would be rebuilding the game from the ground up for a possible iPhone launch.
According to the team's tweets, this game would be 'a re-envisioning of [Super Meat Boy] remade from scratch for touch', and it 'will not play like SMB!'
Anyone speculating on what form the game may take can rule out a simple high score chase-'em-up, as Team Meat explicitly said it won't be 'a simple game like "Doodle Jump" it will be a larger more traditional game'.
Nor will it control much like Super Meat Boy. Nor even be released unless the team are completely happy with the results of their current prototyping.
So, what will the game be like?
We have no idea. But, it's an intriguing proposition given the quality of the original game.
Renowned for its tough-as-nails platforming action, Super Meat Boy invites you to run and jump your way through intensely hostile environments in an effort to rescue your girlfriend from the game's archvillain: Dr Fetus.
There's no word on a release date, and clearly some uncertainty over whether this will ever see the light of day, but we'll keep you posted on developments as they unfold.
