Color Zen is shaping up to be one of my favourite games this year so far. I have a soft spot for simple and elegant puzzle titles, the colour matching and wiping gameplay of the original just hit that sweet spot of pure engagement. Today on the App Store, Large Animal Games releases Color Zen Kids. The game is targeting the 3 - 5 year old market, and tries to make the shapes more engaging by creating animals out of them, which the player then rearranges to meld together, eventually leaving a swath of only one colour. I don't have any kids myself, so couldn't comment on whether the game might be too complex or not engaging enough for them, but I like how they've taken such a great concept and thought about how to shift it towards a different demographic of player. Those with kids of their own could perhaps tell us what they think. The game costs $2.99.
