Pixel-art RPG Star Trek Trexels has beamed onto iPhone and iPad. It's Star Trek, but [don't you dare - Ed] not as you know it [See me after - Ed].

Rather than stick with a single cast of characters from the sci-fi universe's various spin-off series, developer YesGnome has decided to throw fan favourites from different timelines together in a single causality defying story.

As a Star Fleet Admiral, you'll have to prep your ship, the USS Valiant, and its crew for a confrontation with an ancient intergalactic threat called The Progenitors.

Naturally, along the way, you'll need to explore strange new worlds and seek out yada yada yada. This involves firing off a few probes, and then engaging in some real-time strategy combat.

Not all encounters have to be violent, however. If you've got a touch of Troi about you, you can resolve some conflicts diplomatically via text exchages.

As for powering up your ship, this is accomplished by playing a somewhat uninspired mini-game in which you tap a bunch of cubes. I must have missed that episode.

Still, it's got recognisable Star Trek: TNG  interfaces, some familiar faces, and George Takei on narration duty.

You can download Star Trek Trexels right now for £1.99 / $2.99.
