There is probably someone out there who tries to play all of the old-school JRPGs which appear on the App Store. Today, their task got a little harder, thanks to Kemco's latest retro release Journey to Kreisia.

You'll probably be more than familiar with Journey to Kreisia's premise. The lead protagonist is Yusis, a high school boy who has been transported to the fantastical world of Kerisia. Declaring him 'Saviour from the Outer Realm', the people of the land believe the lad has been sent to destroy an overlord who is ressurected every 10 years.

Yusis has to explore the game's 16-bit-inspired world, meeting NPC's and gathering party members before he faces the Overloard. On the way he must battle past hordes of monsters using of a menu-based combat system, while powering up weapons and crafting power orbs to increase his chance of success.

The most interesting part of the game seems to be Overloard's surprisingly short ressurrection cycle. If the story has an entertaining way of approaching this, it could prove a nice twist on the standard 'aeons-long struggle' you generally find in these games.

If you want to Journey to Kreisia you can grab it for a special introductory price of £2.49 / $3.99. Expect that to jump up to £5.49 / $7.99 soon, though.
