Square Enix Montreal has just popped the scope cap off its brand new Hitman project: a free-to-play shooter for iOS called Hitman: Sniper.
Developed by the team behind the excellent board game-style mobile tie-in Hitman Go, this game is said to focus on "the subtlety of execution." We hope this means that you'll get to spend your time selecting locations and choosing the perfect moment to take out your target, as opposed to charging in all guns blazing.
According to the announcement, the game will share a genetic link with Io-Interactive's Hitman: Sniper Challenge, the companion app that was released alongside Hitman Absolution.
One of the thing we liked Hitman Go was the fact it had been created for the ground-up for tablets. Though it sounds like Hitman: Sniper will be more of a gallery shooter than a board game, the team assures us that it too has been "tailor-buit for touchscreen devices, and gets the best out of those possible platforms."
Given the game's competitive slant, the developer is keen to encourage as many people to download the app as possible. So, unlike Hitman Go, this new game is built around a free-to-play model, with players able to "customise their own game experience with optional in-app purchases."
Hitman: Sniper is due to hit iPhone and iPad later this year. We'll keep you informed of any developments.
