Remember that bike racing mini-game from Final Fantasy VII? The one set at the Gold Saucer amusement park where spikey-haired saviour Cloud Strife rockets down a highway slashing at beasties with a comically oversized sword?

Well, Square Enix has decided to repackage the concept as a stand-alone iOS game called Final Fantasy VII G-Bike, and it's coming to iPhone and iPad later this year.

As you can see from the trailer, FFVII G-Bike looks very similar to mini-game upon which it is based. As it's basically an endless runner, we imagine you'll be swiping or tilting to steer your bike, while tapping to attack the stream of enemies being thrown at you.

Speaking to IGN, Square produce Ichiro Hazama revealed that the courses will be preset rather than randomly generated. We can also expect to see different race modes including obstacle courses, chases, and the all important boss battles.

This will be a free-to-play game, with materia orbs (the power crystals used to imbue weapons with mystical forces) probably acting as premium currency.

We'll know for sure when the game is released this autumn.
