Idle games are a fairly new invention, but that hasn’t stopped them from exploding in popularity and number. There are loads to choose from, all jostling for position in app stores across the world. South Korean studio Ekkorr threw its hat into the ring last year by releasing Endless Frontier.
Endless Frontier mixes elements of modern mobile RPGs with your standard addictive clicker. It’s a colourful, continuous battle between good and evil, and your cohort of warriors is the only thing standing in evil’s way.
There are over a hundred fantastical heroes to unlock and upgrade, from four different character types – elves, orcs, humans and the undead. Each offers something unique to the fight.
The bulk of the gameplay involves selecting your units, letting them kill their way through progressively more challenging stages (currently 1,500 in total!) and unlocking and upgrading units using the resources gleaned from the frontline. Each time you find yourself stuck, you simply revive your units and start again, steadily leveling up until you can overcome those tricky stages.
Endless Frontier features a guild system and player vs. player function. Your units can fight alongside or against other players’ units, adding an extra layer of competition beyond ‘my leaderboard ranking is bigger than your leaderboard ranking’.
So if you’re eager for a new idle game, Endless Frontier’s mix of RPG and backseat battling should keep you entertained. It’s free to download from the App Store and Google Play.
