Frogger is a port of the classic Konami arcade title. The gameplay and goal are the same; navigate your frog across a busy highway and the river to his home on the bank. Players must get 5 frogs across the river bank in order to complete the level, while collecting power-ups and bonuses in order to get more points.
Frogger is controlled by flicking your finger on the screen in the direction you want him to jump. Players can also tap or tilt in order to move by changing the options in the menu, but gameplay seems to be simplified when flicking.
The visuals look good and have been greatly improved from the original. The game features all the original sounds and music but have also been redone slightly to improve quality. This is a single player game and highscores are recorded in the score menu. However, there are no online leaderboard options, which is absurd considering the competitive arcade history of Frogger.
If you know anything about arcade gaming, then you’ll know Frogger was one of those early titles on par with Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. This was one of the major titles that helped launch the gaming industry and thankfully hasn’t lost its charm. The updated audio and visuals make for a fresh new look that will welcome new players as well as old. Overall, there’s no way you can refuse Frogger’s simple and classic gameplay. This is a great game and has earned a place in any player’s iPhone collection.
