Spy Bot Chronicles is a spin off of Toy Bot, another platform game by developers IUGO. Toy Bot has been kidnapped and it’s now up to Spy Bot to travel through many different worlds in order to rescue him.
You control Spy Bot by using the onscreen buttons to move and jump. Players can also shoot a small laser to kill enemies or solve puzzles by tapping on the screen. A hacking system is also used in the game, where players tap on certain objects to interact with them and progress through the level.
The visuals consist of a vibrant 2D style, similar to the early style console platformers. The game’s sound design is quite detailed and the music varies in different environments. Players are free to use their iPod during gameplay. The game follows a single player story, and there are no other modes or leaderboard or highscore options. However, once levels are completed, players are free to repeat them to collect hidden objects and other goodies.
Spy Bot Chronicles is a well rounded platform game reminiscent of Super Mario World and other early console titles. The simple controls make for some fun play and the lengthy story mode will definitely keep players busy. And while this is an example of a solid platformer, it seems to be aimed at younger players by it’s somewhat easier difficulty. However, if you don’t mind a simpler game and aren’t perturbed by the moderate game price, then you’ll have some definite fun in Spy Bot Chronicles.
