Fisherman - Fishing Game Review
PROS
- Simple controls mean anyone can play.
- There are a variety of different fish and other creatures to catch.
- The money gained from catching fish is reasonable, meaning you won’t struggle to get enough cash for a wanted upgrade.
CONS
- Players cannot pause gameplay or return to the menu after a level has started.
- There are no online leaderboard options.
- The game has the one single player mode, nothing else.
VERDICT
Fisherman is a simple and enjoyable game, but without leaderboards or diversity in game modes, it just doesn’t seem to be worth the current price.

Fisherman is a fishing game where players must proceed though the different levels catching specific types of fish in the allowed time limit. You begin to earn cash for the different fish you catch, which you can then use to purchase upgrades such as faster reels, longer lines and more level time.
You move your boat around the level by tilting your iPhone and you cast your line by tapping the screen. Players are then able to reel in fish they hook by tapping the screen again. While it sounds simple, calculating the fish’s paths and casting to compensate takes some practise to get right, especially with deeper dwelling fish.
The visuals are simple but do their job. The only sound effects in the game are those of fish flapping when you catch one and the timer counting down during the last 5 seconds of a level. But thankfully, players can use their iPod during gameplay to spice up the sound scape. This is a single player game, with a local highscore board only.
If you like the ‘non-serious’ style fishing games, then you might enjoy Fisherman. There’s some fun in catching fish against a timer and then upgrading your gear, but without online leaderboards, it all seems to be done in vain. Hopefully, an update will come along and fix some of the game's issues, leaving us with a better gaming experience.
