Haunted LCD is a throwback to the old Game and Watch style LCD games. Here, players must protect an old house from invading ghosts and other nasties by using your trusty flashlight. You must also recharge your flashlight once the battery life expires using the Super Charger 3000.
Players control their man, by tapping on either side of the screen to move up and down. You destroy the attacking monsters by moving to their level and blocking them when move closer to the house. If a monster manages gets past you, then you will lose a life. As mentioned earlier, you will have to recharge your flashlight as the battery runs down. You can do this by moving to the top of the screen when your power level is low.
The visuals and sounds are both the same as those of the old LCD games and a great retro treat. Thankfully though, players can use their iPod during gameplay with no loss of sound effects, so the game isn’t so retro that it hurts. The game features two game modes; Game A and Game B. As with the original games, A is the easier mode more for casual or inexperienced players, while B is a lot harder and faster for those who enjoy a challenge.
Haunted LCD is a true homage to the old school LCD games that revolutionised handheld gaming. Almost everything about those games has been captured and transferred to the iPhone. And while the gameplay might seem a bit stale or old for some players, for those who enjoy some retro gaming, Haunted LCD is a must have game.
