Gem Spinner is a Bejeweled type puzzle game with a difference. While players need to match up three or more matching gems in a row, the board is separated into different blocks that can be moved and rotated. This gives players more options and freedom when it comes to lining up gems.
The controls are a little more complicated than other gem puzzle games but still pretty straightforward. You tap on two separate gems to swap them, double tap a board piece to rotate it 180 degrees and tap and slide to move the piece altogether. At first you might not swap or move pieces that much, but on harder levels it is a necessity.
The visuals look good and the gems are vibrantly coloured. The sound features a subtle mix of sound effects, but players are free to use their iPod during gameplay. The game features four difficulty modes, each with the option to submit highscores to the global leaderboards.
Gem Spinner is an interesting title that offers variation from the usual jewel spinning game formula. It may take time to fully grasp and utilize the control scheme, but after a few plays it will become second nature to you. There is a decent amount of content available and if you love other gem games like Bejeweled, then this will surely keep you entertained for hours to come.

"[Gem Spinner] completely changes the whole dynamic of the match-3 formula, and in a good way that doesn’t come off as an attempt to be different just for the sake of being different. Real thought was put into the design of this game, both functionally and aesthetically, and it shows. There’s a genuinely entertaining game here with lasting appeal that brings some unexpected twists to the table — literally and figuratively — and adds a savory dash of logical thinking to this otherwise staid puzzle formula." -- frapstr.com
Gem Spinner is match-3 like you’ve never played before! It’s based on the popular gem-swapping game play of Bejeweled, but adds some great twists – some like Tetris, some brand new – that make it much more engaging and thought provoking, but still easy to learn and play.
Gems are arranged inside of pieces of different shapes and sizes. Swap adjacent gems to match three in a row. Double-tap a gem to spin its piece 180 degrees. Match all the gems in a piece to clear the piece from the board. Drag pieces to empty board spaces to create more match opportunities. Match enough spaces to complete the level goal and then continue to swap, spin, and drag to try to clear the entire board.
Features:
• 35 unique levels which can be played at a variety of skill levels.
• Great graphics and sound effects.
• Optimized for minimal battery drain
• Animated, narrated instructions explain all aspects of game play.
• Practice mode available with hints on every move.
• Easy to learn, easy to play, hard to master.
• Tracks your best scores.
• Compare your scores with other players all over the world.
NOTE Some players have asked how to get back to the board you're trying to beat. When you start the game, if you have already completed one or more boards on the selected skill level, you will see dark arrows on either side of the screen. You can use these arrows to step through the boards you've completed or jump to the highest board you have not yet completed.
