InkBalloons Review
PROS
- Good looking visuals; the backgrounds in particular.
- The game offers online leaderboard options to players.
- Players are free to use their iPod instead of the somewhat annoying game music.
CONS
- The game is very repetitive and can get boring after a while.
- Players can get quite far by just tapping on any balloon they can and ignoring the proper popping sequences.
- There isn’t anything particularly exciting or engaging about the gameplay itself.
VERDICT
Balloon and bubble popping games seldom offer fantastic gameplay, and InkBalloons just re-enforces this fact. This game isn’t worth the current price.

InkBalloons is a quick tapping game where players must pop coloured balloons in a presented sequence in order to get enough points to proceed to the next level. Besides keeping an eye out for the right coloured balloons, players must also watch out for objects such as helicopters and spaceships that will burst your balloons and make an inky mess on the iPhone screen.
Players can tap on these enemy ships to destroy them and return to popping balloons. But will also need to swipe the screen to clean up any obscuring ink puddles that will show up. Different power-ups will also float up with the balloons and will give you different boosts such as extra time or speed boosts to balloons, but it’s rare that you’ll ever need to use these as each level can be easily passed by blindly tapping balloons.
The game’s backgrounds stand out a lot more than the actual balloons themselves, which doesn’t say much for the in game visuals. The sound can get annoyingly repetitive; fortunately players have the option to use their iPod for a welcomed change. The game has only one main game mode with online leaderboard access, but games do not continue if you quit the application.
While InkBalloons does give players something to do for a short while, it’s still an underlying ‘tap fest’ with a pretty colour palette. The game content is quite weak and due to its repetitive nature, can get boring after a short while. Overall, this is just another single play then delete title and not worth a look at.
