Doodle Jump Review
PROS
- Simple, yet addictive gameplay.
- Inventive leaderboard system.
- Fun visuals and sound effects.
CONS
- No music or ability to play your own.
VERDICT
For the low price point, you really can't go wrong with Doodle Jump as a diversion. It's true that there's not much to the gameplay, but what is there works, and works well.

Looking for a diversion on your iPhone? Well Doodle Jump might just be the game for you. Like the name suggests, you play a strange notebook doodle and your goal is to jump from platform to platform while avoiding other strange notebook doodles. The higher you jump, the higher your score. Very simple, yet very addictive.
The controls are part of the reason for the addictiveness. You simply tilt the iPhone to jump from platform to platform, and if you wish to destory an enemy, tap the screen to shoot. Since the enemies can all be avoided, the game can technically be played with only one hand. Great for those out and about looking for a simple diversion.
The visuals enforce the notebook doodle aesthetic and the sound effects have an amusing nature to them (and help inform you about upcoming enemies). There is no music however, and no ability to play your iPod in game. The online leaderboard is clever as during play, you come across the markings of other players, so constantly see how you're faring against everyone else out there (traditional leaderboards can be accessed from the menu).
Doodle Jump is a platformer in every sense of the word. If you enjoy games with platforms, high scores and lots of jumping, you'll probably enjoy Doodle Jump. Also with the low price point, it's not too much of a risk to see whether or not it resonates.
