Bit Pilot will please both retro gamers and bullet hell fans. Its control scheme takes some time getting used to but the game has a lot of personality and offers some asteroid dodging fun.Bullet hell games are starting to become popular on the iphone. It's good to see cause there can be nothing as exhilarating as whipping around the screen, narrowly dodging everything that gets thrown in your way. Bit Pilot is a bullet hell game with a retro style and a unique control scheme. The question is if it all comes together to deliver a great iphone experience.
Instead of using tilt mechanics, or an on screen joystick, Bit Pilot has your fingers directing your ship around the game field. Swiping and dragging will control speed and direction, with swiping in the opposite direction slowing you down. Two fingers on the screen will add more finesse as you whisk and weave around the incoming asteroids. It's a unique control scheme and does the job, but the choice to use another scheme would have been nice.
The game is very retro using simple pixel art and vector lines. Every so many points, you go up in level, and the screen washes in a new colour before the difficulty ramps up. The music is a treat with a wonderful 8bit style track as you play, with another music track as an unlockable. The game features unlockable difficulties and bonuses along with achievements and OpenFeint leaderboards
Bit Pilot will please both retro gamers and bullet hell fans. Its control scheme takes some time getting used to but the game has a lot of personality and offers some asteroid dodging fun..

Bit Pilot was created by Zach Gage (SpellTower, Halcyon, Unify, SynthPond)
and has music by the prolific chiptune artist Sabrepulse.
Bit Pilot uses an intuitive and unique control scheme unlike anything you've tried before. Each thumb swipe on the screen adds the force of that swipe to your ship.
Control with one thumb for small motions, and use two at once in the same direction for quick movements, or two in different directions for precision. Its difficult to explain, but extremely intuitive and precise once you try it. Check out the videos on bitpilotgame.com.
After you get good, the next time you try a dual stick shooter on your xbox, you'll wish you were using a touch controller.
