If you're going to make a fighting game for the iphone, you best be sure you get the controls right, especially if multiplayer is involved. Street Fighter IV by Capcom has been released on the touch device and it's amazing how faithful it is to the proper arcade/console version.
Control is all touch based, using an on screen joystick and four buttons with the touch controls being very responsive. This reviewer had trouble pulling off special moves when needed, but has always had that problem with Street Fighter, even on an arcade stick. For those with such issues, an option has been added to simplify special moves to the SP button and a joystick command. Super and Ultra combos are simply initiated by tapping the meter when holding the joystick in the right direction.
Visually and aurally, the game is top notch. Capcom have done their best to replicate the art and sound style of the arcade version onto the iphone, and aside from some downgrading, they have done an exceptional job. Single player features the tournament, sparring, and the training dojo. Multiplayer uses wifi and bluetooth to engage in one on one fights. Stats are recoded from your bouts, and replays of any game can be saved for viewing later.
Street Fighter IV on the iphone is a must buy for any fighting game fan. The faithful adaptation of the arcade version mixed with working touch controls make this a joy to play. Whether fighting the computer or a friend, you'll get your money's worth with this title.
