Since the inception of iPhone gaming, it seems stick figures have found their new home. Doodle Army is the latest of these in which you play the stick figure version of Rambo, running through 2D levels, mowing down enemies in your path with a plethora of different weapons.
The controls are fairly standard with on screen buttons for left, right and jump, as well as the option to either drag your finger where you wish to shoot, or to use another controller button to do the aiming. These controls suit the game and feel quite intuitive.
Visually, the game is another of the 2D stick animation games with simple graphics drawn over a background and placed appropriately on a notepad. Worth mentioning however, is the use of blood splatter on the screen as you die, giving the player a feeling of urgency as you go. The audio in the game is well suited and includes a humorous voice over from your drill sergeant when you're training at bootcamp. The game features only one mode of running and gunning, but offers five different locations for your one man war to take place.
With no leaderboards, or online capabilities, this is definitely a single player only game and one which may get a little repetitive over time. That being said, discovering new guns and outfits for your soldier as you blast your way through hordes of enemies gives this simple, humorous platformer a certain violent charm to it.
