VERDICT
Ponk doesn't deviate too much from the path of other three-match, but it's a fun alternative with a few neat twists that keeps things from getting boring too quickly.

Ponk by Itchy Mitshi (honestly, did you pick that name just to make video reviews harder?) is another 3-match title for the App Store, but with a heck of a change from the usual lineup - you get to choose when and where your blocks drop. This may not sound like much, but when you successfully juggle several droplets at the same time to get that perfect combo it's a heck of a good feeling.
There are three basic modes to choose from in Ponk, each changing up the gameplay slightly. In 'Klassik' you'll need to make matches of three or more, swiping droplets around the screen and juggling them around to create combos and fill up your special meter. Activating the meter gives you a limited time to swap around droplets that have already fallen in to place, giving you a huge score bonus. 'Kaboum' mode challenges players to eliminate droplets on the bottom row with bombs earned via the special meter; and 'Time Attack' gives players a quicker arcade experience to challenge their skills.
Ponk is bright, juicy and vibrant, oozing its charm all over the screen. A tutorial video is also included to help new players to learn the ropes, covering all the game modes and tips for scoring large.
However, aside from juggling and swapping the droplets there's not a lot more for players to dig in to and despite the alternative modes it all eventually starts to feel the same. This isn't a bad thing by any means and Ponk is still a fabulously entertaining three-match variant, albeit another for the ever increasing pile.
