'How far can you get?' games are quite popular. You can load them up, try and beat your high score and be on your merry way. Airbear by Origin8 Technolgies tries to combine the reach the stars gameplay of games like Doodle Jump, with trampolines. If you're playing through the Homeward Bound mode, there are also puzzle pieces in each area to collect that will unlock the bear's propeller hat.
Control takes some time to get used to, and even then it can be frustrating. Trampolines are created by drawing a line on screen with your finger. If the trampoline is too long however, it will break when the bear hits it. When in the air, tilting can direct the bear's direction but it is not as responsive as you'd like. There are also obstacles such as bombs that can blow limbs off your bear so you'd expect the controls to be tighter.
The game's visuals consist of simple 3D objects. They are pleasing to look at, although the constant flailing of Airbear's limbs and his constant smile, even when a bomb leaves only his head are a tad disturbing. The sound effects are decent and the music is catchy, but as it keeps looping over and over, you'll want to move to your ipod quick, lest it get stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
Airbear is a game that will appeal more to a younger audience. It still is fun, and has great potential, but a few of the control issues need to ironed out before we have a winner here.
