I'm always on the look-out for strange new strategy titles and I have to say that I've definitely found myself intrigued by Bump Wars from developer Coin Bump. Part real-time strategy, part tower defense, you'll have to master managing your resources and units to develop the best defense possible against the enemies advancing troops.

Once you've selected from the three available maps, you'll be thrown directly in to the battle with selectable units down the left side that can be dropped directly on to the field with a touch. By aligning units near each other you can raise their defensive and offensive capabilities, however each unit has unique requirements for activating these abilities. Your defenses will remain static while the opponent slowly closes in and you'll inevitably lose many units as the waves get more intense, however a deep level of strategy is needed to maintain a core unit while maximizing your damage to survive to the final wave.

Bump Wars is extremely simplistic, using basic icons to represent each unit type on the field. There are some basic animations and sound effects, but they feel more functional than truly aesthetic in their choice.

The most frustrating aspect of Bump Wars is its infuriating lack of a learning curve and new players will feel like they've smacked in to a brick wall. While Bump Wars can be intense and highly engaging, players will need to invest a lot of time in order to reach its strategic core, making this a hard game to recommend to all but the most staunch of strategy fans.
